Coffee Prince 7&8

These two episodes placed the Coffee Prince on a whole other level as the show clearly crosses the physical attraction and boundary. For me episode eight had many more issues to deal with than seven and that is why I choose to focus on the latter episode to discuss in this blog.

Early one, grandmother and Han Kyul discuss the issue of the perfect "daughter-in-law" and what that all implies. We find out that in order to be married into Han Kyul's family the woman must come from the an appropriate family background. This of course translates as coming from a wealthy family. The issue here is the opportunity women have in improving their economic standing by marrying into financially better off families, however, we know that Eun Chan will never be good enough for the Kyul's family due to her working class background. This is heartbreaking yet enforces these glass ceilings class centered societies.

Another concern for me while watching this episode was when Eun Chan was discussing her disguise with Hwang Min Yeop and he tells her that she is better off being a guy due to her lack of beauty. To be beautiful in such a vain society is a great and heavy issue as women who are not considered by society's standards they face more obstacles. It is a fact that people do get treated differently based on their physical looks. So here we have the question for Eun Chan that for her it is better she is a guy than a lady, as she would have a tough time in enduring female responsibility due to her lack of beauty. This rings true for Eun Chan's character since she is naturally tomboy which challenges the role and expectations of women.

Staying the role of women in society, in episode eight I took more notice of Han Yoo Joo and her character's independent role. Before I just saw her as this very coy woman, a typical beautiful, talented woman who could have any man she wanted. Yet, in this episode I was able to get over my own prejudices towards her and truly see that she is the representing the independent, career focused, and not relying on men female. In fact it finally caught on that because she does not see the rush of getting married she is considered as being snobby and even cold-hearted, but it is just her not seeing marriage as making her happy. So in the in end, my feelings towards Han Yoo Joo is more of compassion and it will be interesting to see how she balances her independence and feelings towards Han Seong.

Han Kyul takes the initiative to seek out the help of a psychiatry for his attraction to Eun Chan. My question is, his attraction one of sexual or emotional attraction? The doctor prescribes him medicine which I thought was funny and sad since we have the medical field sending the message that this attraction could be "cured." It goes back to all the people who have suffered from being homosexual whether it was electric shocks, summer camps, etc. What is frustrating is that I still am not getting a grasp of how the Korean culture views, tolerates, and places homosexuality, period.

A small point that I wanted to make was that we discover, Han Kyul is the child of his father's mistresses which brings us to the point of what Sandra Bullock had stated in accepting her Oscar, "This goes out to the mothers who raise children not their own." Now we see the added pressure of Han Kyul succeeding in his life as he is the "bastard" child of his father and this powerful matriarchy family has taken him in and raised him with a silver spoon in order for Han Kyul to have a brighter future. This makes the grandmother and mother not as heartless as I had thought of them before.

Finally, this episode ends with the kiss of both Han Kyul and Eun Chan and then Han Seong and Eun Chan. This was surprising as I really did not think that Han Seong would make a move on Eun Chan, yes we saw his adoration for her grow, but I just thought he viewed her as a kid sister. Obviously,I was wrong. I really wish, Eun Chan would just put down her disguise and let Han Kyul know that she is a woman. It's almost not fair and it's really frustrating as a viewer, but I guess that is part of the soap opera's magic in keeping the audience tuning in for the upcoming episodes.

Coffee Prince Ep. 7 & 8

In these two episodes, Hankyul has to deal a lot with fighting against his emotions because he is falling for Eunchan, who he still thinks is a guy. He tries to deny his feelings for her and finds himself to keep looking at her picture and caring for her which causes him to be frustrated since he is showing affection for a “man.” Because Hankyul refuses to admit his feelings for Eunchan, he picks on little things to bicker with her about. In episode 8, Eunchan admits to Hankyul that she likes him which just stresses Hankyul out even more with his emotions. Since he doesn’t know how to handle his emotions, he realizes that he still wants Eunchan next to his side and proposes they become brothers. Eunchan agrees because she also realizes she wants to be with him but can not reveal her identity due to the risk of not being able to be close to Hankyul again. It was surprising that Eunchan kissed Hankyul at the end of episode 7 though. It was out of no where. I really wasn’t expecting that since Eunchan hasn't revealed she's a girl yet which would make it more confusing and awkward for Hankyul.

Some jealousy erupts between Eunchan and Hankyul. Hankyul gets jealous when Eunchan receives a call from Hansung and talks really friendly to him. Eunchan also gets jealous when she wanted to meet up with Hankyul but finds Yooju with him. Eunchan had made breakfast for Hankyul and hoped to eat with him but then her mood changed when Hankyul ate Yooju’s breakfast instead. Also in episode 8, when Eunchan saw Hankyul lying in Yooju’s lap, Eunchan gets upset because she spent most of her time comforting Hankyul but sees Hankyul close with Yooju instead of her. Yooju seems to also be jealous of Eunchan by how she is young, lively, and how everyone seems to be comfortable around her.

Eunchan’s secret is slowly being revealed as Sunki finds out by Minyub. I really feel sorry for Minyub though because of the way Eunsae treats him.

What I don’t like is Hankyul’s grandmother having stomach cancer. It is so typical in a drama that someone will end up with cancer. I don’t really see the point of it besides making Hankyul shaping up to be more responsible. However, I do like the way Hankyul cares for his grandmother and mother which shows importance of family closeness.

Also, Hansung finally decides to kiss Eunchan but it’s sad at this time Eunchan has already developed stronger feelings for Hankyul.

Coffee Prince Episode 7 &8

Okay seriously though? Why hasn’t Han Gyul figured out that she is a girl? How awkward is it to have your boss ask for a hug outside while alone together just so he can figure out whether or not he is into her. Though he still thinks that she is a guy so he’s trying to figure out whether or not he is gay! Ha! Come on dude, really? Can you not see that she is clearly a girl? Anyways, it seems typical of Korean dramas to have someone sick or wrong with them and therefore ends up in the hospital. The grandma ends up in the hospital because she’s sick. I thought it was sweet that Han Gyul and Eun Chan plays cards with her and keep her company. I also thought it was kind of funny how the grandmother uses her tone with Eun Chan when they first met. I can see how Han Gyul’s family is very close to each other, which is common in most Asian families. Another thing that caught my attention is when Eun Chan’s sister failed at her audition, which sucks for her because she thought that she could really sing! Turns out that she’s a bad singer. Regardless, it was sweet that Eun Chan comforted her sister. As I continue to watch this drama, I keep thinking to myself that something else is going to happen, like Eun Chan really going to tell her true identity to Han Gyul since everyone else seems to know, but she yet has said anything. I’m just waiting to see when she will tell her and see his reaction as to whether he is relieved that she is a girl, meaning he isn’t gay or would he be mad because she’s a girl and she hid it from him. I just have to wait until I see the other episodes to figure it out.

so the drama has moved on quite quickly but not to the point when HanGyul and EunChan made out, can you say AWKWARD!? im still kind of boggled by the fact that HanGyul does not know that EunChan is really a girl!. i wonder if he will change his mind when he finds out that Eun Chan is really a girl and if he is really gay or not . more of boring couples "love story" plays on in these two episodes , truthfully i didnt really pay attention to them, im so over it already.

i am starting to dig the fashion in this show because your able to see the different class of people dresses and the outfits are kind of cute, something I would considering on wearing . oh yeah and the added new drama that is now happening and is going to effect HanGyul is the fact that his grandma is now sick which is probably a foreshadowing to what might need to be done and what will happen to HanGyul and the decisions that he need to make in a timely manner just incase his grandma might pass away and he wants to make her happy or to make sure that she passes away making sure that everything she left in her family will go successfully.

Coffee Prince Episode 7 & 8

So we start off with an awkward moment with HanGyul and EunChan and of course adding to what someone already said why in the world doesn’t HanGyul figure out she’s a girl. For goodness sake the cousin already knows from the start, I’m beginning to think that HanGyul is just an oblivious bloke. There’s also the part when EunChan is talking to HanSung and well duh, HanGyul is jealous but it also seems that way with HanSung when he finds out that she’s with HanGyul. And then again on the train their bodies meet, for what in the world doesn’t make this make realize that she’s a girl I will never know. Crazy fool. EunChan feeling sad because I think both guys she knows likes YuJu. I also like the fact that in this drama they have the small, and in this case small, storylines like with SunKi finding that woman. And with the fight from HanGyul and EunChan lets HanSung cheer her up again. ^_^ Did anyone notice that HanSung is driving a foreign car? I thought that was an out of place thing. Eventually EunChan comes back to work and everyone is happy. And this wouldn’t be a Korean drama if someone wasn’t sick, I feel so bad for the Grandmother but then again I would feel bad if anyone would a condition like that. Ending off with EunChan and HanGyul kiss… Ewww..

I won’t go into the kiss.. Eww.. But I will say the hospital scene when HanGyul, EunChan and the Grandmother are playing Go Stop is cute. One of these days I would like to learn how to play it. Hehehe. I felt bad for EunSae’s audition, I don’t think she knows that she’s that bad. She just needs a lot more practice. And EunSae shouldn’t have treated MinYup that way even if she was in a bad mood. That’s not right though many people do it these days it’s still not right. And for the shocker of this episode to me was that HanSung KISSED EunChan. Wow. ^_^ And I will leave it at that.

Okay, seriously by the way Han Kyol picks her up and tosses her around him like that in the last episode I still don't know why he doesn't figure out that Eun Chan is a girl. I mean c'mon can't he feel her boobs and that she has no balls! Jeez! Excuse my reaction, but this is getting me frustrated! Seriously hopefully this isn't directed to all guys in general but in dramas like this, why are guys so clueless? Someone needs to say it in his face!

However, going back to Eun Chan's sister's audition, I really felt bad that she wasn't able to pursue her singing career. but by the looks of it she REALLY needed practice including all of the other auditions. But at least she tried.

One thing that did struck me in this episode is the fighting, of course like any drama, there is always the conflict between the main characters and families. I think the more serious one in this is about HAn Kyol and his family. Is he adopted or did his father cheat? But man, if you wished that you're father had slapped you, then you must really need some serious therapy.

I guess what you can gain from these two episodes is the urpising conflicts, so we should be expecting the climax soon?

Pasta 7 and 8

In episode 7 and 8, Chef Hyunwook and Yukyung come back to La Sfera with fresh fish for the new menu competition. Chef Hyunwook encourages Yukyung to win the competition after he finds out that Seyoung, Chef Hyunwook's ex-girlfriend, joins this competition. Both Yukyung's fishball pasta and Seyoung's three flavor pasta compete on the final competition, but Chef Hyunwook chooses Seyoung's dish and she finally becomes "another chef" in La Sfera. At the same time, another incidence happens for Yukyung. When she prepares some food for next day's cooking for VIP customers, she's locked out in the refredge. She chooses to turn the switch off, and all the meats and other foods are all gone bad.
I was freaked out when Yukyung's locked out in the fridge because she acts so negative and just sits on the floor doing nothing and finally turn the fridge off. She should have tried pushing door to open before just sitting on the floor. What more funny for me was Chef' Hyunwook's reaction for Yukyung. He told her that she should have chose to freeze to death rather than just turn the switch off if she were a professional chef.
Love line is kind of complicated in these episodes. Even though Seyoung knows that Chef Hyunwook is into Yukyung, she still acts like she's still his girlfriend or stalker. I don't know what she's really thinking to Chef Hyunwook. Will she turn to an evil at the end? Maybe is she going to take him away from Yukyung? Alex seems that he's interested in both Yukyung and Seyoung too. Also, I feel embarassed for watching Alex's acting in the beginning of the show, but I think he's getting better in the last couple episodes. I enjoyed the conversation when one girl, a friend of Kim San and Chef Seyoung, goes to pub with four chefs (those who went to Italy and claim themselves as an elite). She loves Italy so much, and she went to her first honeymoon to Florence, second one to Milan, and she's hoping that her "third one" will be in Sicily. I think that she like Phillip (a guy with long hair) because she always being cheesy to him.

By the way, I want to visit La Sfera if it exists for real, and I found out that La Sfera is a real Italian restaurant named "Buona Sera" located in Seoul.
