1. How were you introduced to Asian popular culture?
I have one obvious reason how I was introduced to Asian popular culture. Yes, I'm from Korea! I used to and am watching many Korean and other Asian TV shows. There weren't any particular reasons why I watch many Asian TV shows, but I was "naturally" exposed to Asian pop culture since I grew up in Korea.
2. What aspects of Asian popular culture do you enjoy? For example, what are some of your favorite films, dramas, groups, etc., etc.?
There are many different kinds of TV shows which represents Asian pop culture. Among them, I enjoy watching Korean and Japanese TV dramas and movies. Especially, I like to watch the one shows about maniac factors. i.e. one ordinary man becoming a famous chef and shows all the cooking scenes. Also, I like to watch Korean action and comedy movies such as "Shiri," "Monster," or "Welcome to Dongmakkol." Even though horror movies are not my favorite, I still like to watch something like "Grudge" or "Ring" for fun. However, my top favorite movie so far is "Love Letter" directed by Iwai Shunji.
3. What happens to you in the process of watching/listening/engaging in (different types of) Asian popular culture? How is it different from watching/listening/engaging in American popular culture?
Because I grew up in Korea, I understand better when I watch Korean TV shows than American ones. I think that TV shows represent to one's culture so it's the best way to learn one's culture by watching their TV shows. When I watch American shows, I always feel that the way of people think and act is different, and those differences come from different cultural background. Also, I think that the format of comedy shows are really different between Korea and America. Most comedy shows in Korea makes audiences laugh by "acting" funny while Americans find the fun factors through talking.
4. What are some Asian popular culture blogs and sites you have found fun, helpful, or informative? Please provide links if possible.
In most cases, I find some updated news or informations through blogs in korean websites such as Naver.com. The website "Korean Drama" offers information of all the korean dramas and actors. It shows full list of Korean dramas and almost all actors, and we can get detail information. http://www.koreandrama.org/
